中島 らも
1952年、兵庫県尼崎市生まれ。大阪芸術大学放送学科卒業。92年『今夜、すべてのバーで』で第13回吉川英治文学新人賞、94年『ガダラの豚』で第47回日本推理作家協会賞(長編部門)をそれぞれ受賞。作家活動のほか、劇団「笑殺劇団リリパットアーミー」やロックバンド「PISS」を結成。2004年7月26日、転落事故による脳挫傷などのため急逝、享年52歳(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

大麻取締法違反で捕まってから保釈までの拘置所生活で体験したこと、考えたこと、感じたことなどがちょっと意外なくらいな細かさで綴られています。これは想像ですが、らもさんは後にこの体験を題材にして小説を書くつもりだったんじゃないかな。「今夜すべての〜」みたいに。エッセイを読んでるとそんな気がしてなりませんでした。

らもさんの作品は大好きで「ガラダの豚」まで大好きでした。それから何となくちょっと違うなっていう感じなって、そして逝ってしまいました。今回、読んだこの作品は大好きだった頃ののんびりと、やんわりとホントのことを言ってくれる、らもさんがいました。
とてもうれしくて、また彼の作品をあれこれ読み返したいと思っています。

　外界から遮断された独房。圧倒的な孤独と有り余る時間を、「考える」ことに費やした中島らも。絶望的な状況の中なのに、明るく楽しい中島らも。それが何だか痛々しすぎて、すごく悲しかった。宇梶剛士さんのあとがきでは、とうとう涙がこぼれてしまった。
　心の中にあふれんばかりの彼の思想、知恵、原理。それを表現するために書き、歌い、芝居をする。でも、どんな表現手段を使っても、満足できなかったに違いない。そうしてますます傷ついていったに違いない。
　さようなら、らもさん。あなたのようにとことん考え抜ける天才は、現世で生きるのはつらすぎる。
