『精神力』という題を見て購入しましたが、以前に出版された『悪戯の流儀』を改題・再編集した本でした。

『悪戯の流儀』を持っている人にはお勧めできません。

これまで読んだ桜井氏の著書を思い出すと当たりはずれがあるというのが正直な感想。
本書は「当たり」であった。

内容の殆どは人生相談で占められている中、桜井氏の回答の随所に共感した。
桜井氏は２０年間無敗の麻雀のプロであったが、その背景には何事にもぶれることのない軸のような哲学があるということがわかる。
また、勝負に勝っても奢ることのない謙虚さを持ち、比較的（ギャンブラーとしては）無欲で優しい人間だということが窺われた。

ただ、残念だったのは相談者の年齢や性別が書かれていなかった点。
相談事はその人の現在の年齢や性別、職業などによって多少回答が変わると思われるのでそこをきちんと記して欲しかった。

全体的に読みやすく、忘れかけていた大事な事柄を思い出させてくれるような回答もあり、お薦めできる。

人生相談よろしく、Ｑ＆Ａ形式で書かれている。
読者からのＱを読むと、読み手として当然一つの答えを用意する。
そしてつづけて著者の答えを読むと、
己の考えの至らざる所に気づく。
質問者の中にも自分と同じようなところがあり、
共に学ぶことができる。
折りしもイチロー選手が9年連続の200本安打を達成した。
そのインタビューで「とりあえず人との競争から解放された」旨の発言があった。
Ｑには人それぞれの悩みが現れているが、
桜井氏は一つひとつ丁寧に答えている。
その根底、根源は自尊ではなかろうか。
比べることに意味、意義が感じられるなら比べればよい。
それよりも己を知る、思う存分やるところが楽しい。
「極道辻説法」（今　東光）と同じ痛快さを感じる。
