僕はこれまで古事記も日本書紀も何度か挑戦したのですが、古事記は何とか読
み切れましたが、日本書紀は読破した事がありません。
なのでこの二書は、僕の中で好きではあるんだけど、読み切れない書物という
扱いになっています。

そこで、この易しい本を手に取ってみました。
この本は「そこまで簡単にするの？」と思うほど易しく、これまで記紀で挫折
してきた人でも間違いなく読み切れると思います。
もちろん200頁程度の本な上、図表を多用していますので、記紀の全てが分かる
とはとても言えませんが、「これだけ分かり易い本で、ここまで理解できるのな
ら上々だな。」と思える程は理解できるので、良い本と言えると思います。

構成は、前半100頁程度が古事記、後半が日本書紀で、似た内容だからと混ぜた
りはしていません。また、記紀の違いにもしっかり言及してあり、好印象です。
図は、書のほぼ半分が図表と言えるほどで、分かり易さを大変助けてくれていま
す。

という事で、記紀初心者、または記紀挫折組の方にお奨めの本です。記紀を易し
く、深く知る事ができると思いますよ。

93頁に「のちの帝国主義時代に朝鮮侵略を正当化するため」とある。
侵略とは、武力をもって攻撃したり占領したりすることであろう。
朝鮮併合は互いの政府の合意で成立したのでこれには当たらない。
また、正当化も何も朝鮮併合は正当な行為であり、
欧米の列強も異議を挟まなかった。

また、198頁に「朝鮮進出の野望が打ち砕かれた大海戦」とあるが、
百済からの救援要請で出兵したのに、
野望と言われては、中大兄皇子も辟易するだろう。

もしこれで日本が勝って朝鮮に勢力を伸ばしたとしても、それは結果論である。

古代において勢力隆盛な民族が拡大していくのは当然であり、
それを現代的な価値観で侵略だの野望だのと言うのはどうかしている。

前半は古事記、後半が日本書紀という構成です。地図や系図や写真が豊富で、コンパクトながら良くまとまっています。特に、いろいろな人物の関係がわかる系図は理解に役立ちました。

人物名については、前者がカタカナで、後者が漢字で表記されていて、その理由も最初に述べられています。また、単にあらすじの概要を述べるだけでなく、適時解説や該当する記載事項についての研究者の説を紹介してあります。

稲羽の素兎やヤマタノオロチ、大化の改新や白村江の戦い、といった日本人ならほとんどの人が知っている伝説や事件も登場します。

本書にも言及があるように、特に日本書紀の記述については一部でいろいろな批判もあるようですが、古事記と日本書紀がなければ日本の古代の姿はもっとおぼろげな形でしか伝わっていなかった筈です。ただ、それぞれ大著なので、このように簡単に読めるダイジェスト版の存在はありがたい。日本国の国家遺産としての「記紀」の重要性を改めて認識しました。
