歴史に興味があり、古事記、日本書紀を読みたいと常々思っていましが、なかなか読む時間がない＆どうしても神々の名前が把握しきれない・・・ということで、
古事記等の本を購入しても、挫折して読みきれていませんでした。
でも、この本で、あらすじ・図説で、記紀のストーリーを把握することができました。

内容は、古事記、日本書紀について、神話の時代から、壬申の乱までの各テーマごとに、２ページ構成で説明されています。
　右ページ：各テーマのあらすじ
　左ページ：各テーマに関係する地域の地図、神社の写真や、神々の系図 etc
あらすじは、すごくわかりやすく、本当の記紀を読んだ気分になれます。
私としては、特に系図が役立ちました。神々は、名前がわかりにくいのですが、系図があれば、つながりがすぐわかります。

古事記、日本書紀を読む前に、入門書として利用できますし、記紀を読むときの参考書として横に置いておくのもいいかもしれません。
また、出雲や伊勢、諏訪などの地域を観光で回るときに持ち歩けば、神社とかで役立つと思います。

『古事記』と『日本書紀』、古代史や日本神話に興味を持つ人ならば、一度は目を通しておきたい書ですが、読み難いのも確か。多くの出版社から現代語訳や対訳の本が出ているものの、それでも通して読むのは大変です。『古事記』はまだおもしろく読めるのですが、『日本書紀』ときたらもう・・・。本を買ってはみたものの、途中で挫折してしまったという方も多いのでは？かく言う私もその一人、『日本書紀』はなかなか読み通せません。
で、そんな方には本書がおすすめ。読みやすく、地図や写真が多く使われていてわかりやすく、記紀の概略をつかむことができます。とは言ってもあくまで概略、本書で大まかな流れをつかんだら、ぜひ本編に挑戦しましょう。今度はきっと読み通せる！かな？

昔｢古事記｣は読んだが、｢日本書紀｣は途中で挫折したという方等に、この本はお勧めだと思います。（自分がまさにそうでした。）
難解な日本神話を、地図や図解説明でわかりやすく、且つ記紀それぞれ差異に留意して説明がなされている為、｢古事記｣の再理解と、｢日本書紀｣への興味が深まる事必須と思います。ただ、難解な文章を読み解くのも神話の醍醐味であり、一般の方向けである事は言うに及びません。
また記載内容に関して、間違えか確信犯か判らない誤植（？）があったりします。（自分が一番気になったのは、一般的に崇神天皇の祖父孝元天皇の妹とされる倭迹迹日百襲姫命を、一説の卑弥呼同一人物説に見立てて、崇神天皇の姉と断定的に紹介しているところ。巻末の天皇の系図にもそう載っている。）
細かいところが気にならない方はさらにお勧めします。

図説でわかりやすいのかと思いきや、やはり歴史物初心者には難解な一冊でした。あらかじめ予備知識があれば、入りやすいのかも知れませんが・・・。
