二転三転、、、五転六転、、、十転、、、。
この物語は、いったい何転すれば、収拾がつくのだろう。
当初から、この学者先生は、人が良くて、罠に陥れられている様にも感じる。

そして、挿入されている手記は、内容が壮絶で、大変読み応えがある。
そして、手記に仕掛けられた罠は、巧妙に学者先生を、陥れてゆく。

この作品には、物語が巧みに練り上げられている点は、著者ならではであるが、
これまでの著者の作品とは、少し読後感が異なる。

著者は、これまで、目を背けたくなる様な、嫌悪感を抱かせる対象に、度々焦点を当ててきた。
この作品は、その点では異なり、読後に、温かいものが後遺する。

文句無しの力作だ。

挿話の主人公佐脇依彦の話が長くて著者もドラマを書くようになったのかと思ったが後からちゃんと犯人探しが用意されていて期待を裏切らない。佐脇の話が終わってからぐいぐい読ませてくれる。
大学講師の主人公松嶋先生は騙されっぱなしでいつ真実に辿り着くのだろうかとハラハラしてしまう。著者の今までの作品と同様に重苦しい雰囲気は踏襲しているが趣は異なっている。こういうのも好きだ。ようやく見つけた黒幕があっけらかんとしているのも好感が持てる。

交通事故で妻を亡くした国文学学者が入手した手記。その手記には五十年前に自殺した作家の自殺に至るまでの事件が克明に記されていた。手記の謎を解こうとする主人公に降りかかる悪意。三転四転する真相。途中で読むのが止まらない。寝不足必至。

手記単体でも短編を読み終えたような満足感。人間が描けている！
