　写真は＜言葉＞、レンズは＜眼＞と語るフリ−フォトジャ−ナリスト、
昨年イラクでの人質事件で注目を浴びた郡山総一郎氏による写真とメッセ−ジです。

　遠い国での争い、ﾌﾞﾗｳﾝ管の中での出来事ととしてしか感じられない私たちに、
一枚一枚の写真に切り取られた子どもたちの眼差しの奥から、
これが現実だと鋭く訴えかけてくるものがあります。

　「未来は力をあわせて作っていかなければならない。
　　今この瞬間にも、紛争で命を失う人々、貧困に苦しむ子がいることを知り、
　　考えることは、人間としての責任だと思う。」
　とのメッセ−ジにこめられた氏の悲痛な思いが、ひしひしと伝わってくる写真集。
　まさしく百聞一見にしかずです。

あまりにも当たり前のことだけど、生まれてきた子どもには何の責任も罪も無い。あるのは明るい希望「だけ」のはずだ。しかし戦争、貧困、病気で明るいはずの未来を奪われた多くの子どもたちがいる。それでも気丈に生きる子どもたち。彼らの目には何が映っているのだろう。

日本はまだまだ「まし」かもしれない。しかし、子どもたちを取り巻く環境は決して満足できるものではなく、あらゆる危険にさらされ、人間らしく生きる希望を持てないでいる子どもたちが増えている。著者はそのような日本の子どもたちをどう見ているのだろうか？　写真におさめられないものか。
