本屋さんでいろいろ読み比べましたが、
この本が、一番掲載写真が大きくて（本自体も大きいんですけどね。）綺麗で掲載数も半端じゃありません。
紙質も 上等。歴史読本で有名な出版社の特別編集と言うだけのことはあります。
内容も時代背景など説明も充実しています。
ハンガリーとの関係なども良く判り 、勉強になりました。
エリザベートの息子ルドルフやバイエルン王ルードヴィヒ、ファナ王女など、
その時代に生きた人々や、王家の有名どころも押さえていて、読み物としても大変、おもしろいです。
また 、ハプスブルグ家の王冠や双頭の鷲の紋章がド・アップで載っているので、その細部までよく判り、
ジュエリーに興味のある人や、エンブレム、王冠マニアに はたまりません。
斯くいう私もその一人です。

　数あるハプスブルク関連本の内、本書は、ユニークでバランスのとれた内容だと思います。まず皇妃エリザベートゆかりの品々をカラーで特集した中で、衣服やアクセサリー、宮殿、御用列車などにまじって特に印象深かったのは、乗馬好きの皇妃らしい馬蹄型をした卓上のカレンダー兼時計と、暗殺時に着用していたドレスでした。作家や教授の執筆者が複数いるので、皇妃を含めた関連人物史は、物語調や教科書風ですが、皇帝夫妻晩年の共通の『友人』こと、カタリーナ・シュラットに一項目設けているのも興味深いものがありました。後半、他のハプスブルク家関連の人物史の特徴は、ブラジルの皇妃レオポルディーネら、比較的マイナーな人物も紹介している点が印象的でした。
