学生の頃、最も嵌った漫画の一つ。今も自宅に初版がある。
西アジアものが得意な神坂智子氏が、ライフワークと言って、非常に丁寧にロレンスの思考を考えられた作品ではないかと思う。
確かに史実にかなり加えているものはあるだろうとは思うが、それでも、英雄を単に英雄だけでなく、とても愛すべき人にした内容は、趣き深い。
主人公のトマス・エドワード・ロレンスは、第一次大戦中トルコ占領下のアラビア半島において英国の情報将校兼アラブ軍軍事顧問として2年ほど大活躍した。本職学者ということだが、とても変わった人であったらしい。その変人ぶりの所以がこの本で解釈として見れる。（あくまで漫画です）自著、「知恵の七柱」も少し難しいけど、読み進めると、面白く、昔にこんなすごい才能が存在したんだなぁと感じる。
