キャロル,ルイス
本名チャールズ・ラトウィッジ・ドジソン。イギリスの数学者、牧師、小説家、詩人、写真家。1832年チェシャー州生まれ。ラグビー校からオックスフォード大学クライスト・チャーチ学寮に入学、卒業とともに同大学の数学講師。1862年、大学寮長リデル博士の次女アリスを主人公にした物語を後に手稿本『地下の国のアリス』にした。1865年には『不思議の国のアリス』、71年にその姉妹編『鏡の国のアリス』、76年には『スナーク狩り』を発表。1898年没

ラッカム,アーサー
1867年ロンドン生まれ。1894年に挿絵画家としてデビュー。1900年の『グリム童話』で注目され、1905年のアーヴィング『リップ・ヴァン・ウィンクル』の挿画で名声を決定的なものにした。以後イギリスの挿絵画家の第一人者として多くの児童文学の挿絵を描いた。1939年没

高橋 康也
1932年、東京生まれ。東京大学名誉教授。2002年逝去

高橋 迪
1956年、津田塾大学英文科卒(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

完訳版アリスがほしくて色々調べた末この本に決めました。その理由は、
・言葉遊びがきちんと訳されていること（上手く訳されていると思います）
・語注のバランスがよい（アリス初心者向き）
・挿絵がラッカムであること（カラーもあります、新装版はさらに綺麗だそうです）
　鏡の国のアリスのラッカムがないことが残念です。
・高橋康也の訳であること（新装版は、奥様が一部改訳しています）
　鏡の国のアリスの高橋訳がないのも残念です。
アリス本は沢山出ていますが、完訳でありながら、言葉遊びが全く訳われていないものもあります。他に、もっと語注が多いものや、全くないもの、台詞が大阪弁のもの、もあります。用途にあわせて購入されると良いと思います。挿絵はテニエルが有名ですが、この本を読んで、ラッカムの画集を集めたくなりました。

アーサー・ラッカムの幻想的でありながら、臨場感あふれる挿絵に彩られたアリス。カラー以外にもモノクロのカットがいくつも挿入されていて、ページをめくるのが楽しくなります。
この本自体は20年前に出されたものの新装版ですが、カラーイラストの色もよくなっているし、装丁もシンプルでお洒落なものになりました。
大人から子供まで、大事な宝物として、いつまでも本棚に残しておきたい一冊です。
