パンク以降つまり1980年代の英国はポジティブパンク、ネオ・サイケ、ニュー・アコースティック、ニュー・ロマンティクス･･･などなど、様々な音楽スタイルが混在する「ニューウェーブ」というカオスに突入する。
本書はパンクからニューウェーブのミュージシャン達の当時の貴重なインタビュー集。
「MUSIC LIFE」や当時英国ロックの数少ない情報源の一つであった「宝島」に掲載されたインタビュー記事がそのまま収録されている。アーティストは39組に及びジョン・ライドン、イギー・ポップ、ＮＹのパティ・スミス、ジョニー・サンダースらのパンク勢に始まり、ニューウェーブではスージー＆ザ・バンシーズ、キュアーのロバート・スミス、ポジティブパンクのキリング・ジョークなどなど当時来日したアーティストを網羅している。

その他、スミスのモリシー、コクトー・ツインズ、パフォーマーとしても強烈だったリディア・ランチ、ニック・ケイブ、ジム・フィータス、再結成されたダムド、そしてイアン・デューリー、ウィルコ・ジョンソン、変わったところではアフリカ・バンバータ、R・E・Mらのアメリカ勢もインタビューに答えている。

このジャンルの特殊性からみればそれほど売れるはずもないのに、文庫で手軽な値段設定をしたシンコー・ミュージックには良心を感じるが現在ではレアアイテムになっているかもしれない。
