良くも悪くも教科書的です。
理論が先にあり、具体例を紹介していくという方法なので、手っ取り早くテクニックがほしい人には向かないでしょう。
逆に言うと、NLPの視点で、脳の仕組み・感情の仕組み・・といった部分から解説してあり、なぜNLPテクニックがそういった方法を使うのか・・・といった根本原理が理解できます。
私にとっては非常に勉強になり、少々トラウマ的になっていた件も自分でうまく片を付けることができました。他人の相談に乗るときも「論理を伴ったテクニック」を知っていることで、余裕をもって相談に対応できるようになっています。
「記憶は嘘をつく」なども読まれるとより理解が深まるかもしれません。

本の性格としてはかなり教科書的です。
といっても、「向こう（アメリカ）のしっかりした教科書」という感じなので、読みやすく、記述等の信頼感はかなり高いです。また、NLP における「愛」の重要性を強調しているのも好感が持てました。

本の性格上、これで何か技術が身につくというものではないけれど、NLP の全体像を掴むことができるので、そういうニーズを持っている方には最適な本と言えるでしょう。

「まずはやわらかい本から入りたい」という方は、この本の前に『心のウィルス』なんかを先に読んでおくのもいいかもしれません。

　私は、ＮＬＰについては、二、三のテクニックの概略を知っていた程度の初心者だが、この本を読み、各テクニックの詳細を学ぶことができた。著者のいうＲＥＳＯＬＶＥモデルもわかりやすく説明されていて、指導する側がどういう姿勢でセラピーに臨んでいるのかもよく理解できた。また、ＮＬＰのテクニックは、従来のさまざまな心理療法の中で、名称こそ異なるが、すでに頻繁に用いられているものだということも、各テクニック毎に丁寧に説明されていて、心理療法全体の勉強にもなった。
　私にとって、この本は入門書であり参考書であると同時に、将来は実践の手引きになる貴重な一冊だ。
