事典と銘打ってはいますが武将の家系図やら家臣構成や戦歴・享年等の
しっかりとしたデータが欲しい人は違う本を買った方がいいかもしれません。
有名な武将の逸話ばかりがほとんどを占めていますし、
史料の情報量もなんというか痒いところに手が届かない印象です。
ですが当時の武将たちの常識や生活を知る手段としてみればお手軽且つ優秀です。
武将達が受けていた教育、得意とした戦法に女性・小姓の役割
流行っていた趣味に家訓、そしてその晩年と死に様などなど…
この一冊で小説やドラマなどで戦国時代に足を踏み入れる際の下地を作ってくれます。
厚い本なので身構えてしまいがちではありますが
雑学本として肩の力を抜いて読んでください。

歴史に物凄く興味がある人には確かに物足りないかもしれません。ですが、戦や戦術、名言だけのよくある本ではなく、当時の風習や生活まで一通りしっかりまとめてある丁寧な造りにとても好感が持てました。
どちらかと言うと専門書というより教科書的な感じ。イラストもコミカルながらしっかり分かりやすく描かれていました。
逆にこういったざっくり、けれどしっかりまとめた本ってあまりない気もしますね。

戦国武将を比べてながめるのに、いい本です。教科書の情報だけではものたりない小学生は、武将のエピソードが結構おもしろいことが書いてありますから読んでみたらいいです。
