｢バターを室温に戻す｣｢切るように混ぜる｣等々、お菓子作りのレシピには独特の定番表現が登場する。「室温って､季節によって違うよね…」「切るように混ぜるって、具体的にはどうすればいいの？」等の疑問が初心者を襲う。
焼き菓子は、材料を用意→混ぜる→生地が出来たら焼く、というのシンプルな作り方のものが多いので、｢混ぜ方｣は重要。その重要な混ぜ方の基本5種類とともにレシピによって混ぜる回数・時間が事細かに書かれている。焼く時の温度も、使っているのが電子レンジオーブンなのかガスオーブンなのかによって変わってくる（らしい）ので、オーブンの種類毎に書かれていたりするのも嬉しい。結局は自分の家のオーブンの様子を見てということになるが､慣れるまではなかなか難しいので､細かい情報があると疑問と不安が減るのがいい。巻末に｢バターをポマード状にする｣｢焦がしバター｣などのお菓子作りの基本的なポイントがまとめられているのも便利。ただ｢家庭でも､初心者でも、失敗なくつくれること。」がこの本（やイル・プルー）のポイントであるようだが､載っているレシピが初心者にはちょっと大変なものも多いかなという感じが若干する。
