梅佳代の独特の世界観が、新明解国語辞典の独特の世界観と合わさって、なんともユニークで暖かく、そしてスパイスの効いた1冊に仕上がっています。

本の見開き右側に、テーマとなる趣き深い言葉が1ページずつアイウエオ順に並んでおり、その左側にはその言葉を表現する梅佳代の写真が1ページずつ並んでいます。たとえば休日の、ちょっとリラックスしたいときに、お茶でも飲みながらのんびり鑑賞すると、絶妙の味わいがする1冊だと思います。

国語辞典って、こんなに楽しかったっけ？
首を傾げるほどに微笑が生まれるのは、とりもなおさず写真の効果だ。
写真に言葉を添えられると、やはり、わかりやすい。子どもたちも年配者も、動物たちも若い女性も、意味深になる。
写真を読みなれていない者にとっては、辞典の語義を読みながら、作者はこの写真にこの言葉をどうして組み合わせようと思ったのか、などと、想像をめぐらせることが面白かった。
しかも、辞書というものは、言葉の意味を二つ三つと紹介するものであるから、俄然、写真の読みも十重二十重となりやすい。
小ぶりで微笑ましい、ちょっと一休みの気分のときに開きたい。

『うめめ』と等価のインパクトあって、とにかくよい。

アマゾンだと、帯がとられてなんだか情けない形に見えるが、実際に手に取るとかわいい写真ばかりで楽しくなる。

新しいうめ劇場を垣間見た思い
