筆者ボー・バウマンは、１９９３年の当時１６歳の時に、
「人間とはどういうことを考えるものなのか」と好奇心を持ち、
とにかく有名無名を問わず、できるだけたくさんの人へ訊こうと
「人生で学んだ一番大切なことは何ですか？」
という質問を、数千人に手紙を送って返事を待った。
返答率は２０％。
ただの少年の問いかけに、これだけの人たちが耳をかたむけた、
まずそのことが感動的である。

最初のページはスティーブン・ホーキンスの
「私が人生で学んだことは、自分がいま持っている力を全部使えということです」という言葉から始まる。

かと思えば、作詞家のアイラ・ガスマンの「定価ではぜったい買わない」や、ＮＹの幼稚園児ブライアン・ワーマーくんの「友達のつくりかた」、ビリー・ジョエルの「それがわからない」
なんていう、ユニークな回答も載せられている。

無論それだけではなくて、生真面目な回答も多く、それだけこのボー少年に対する、皆の真摯な態度がすばらしい。

人生って何？
それはきっと誰もが一度は思うこと。
この本は、よくある癒し系的な人生本でもなく、
ひたすらユニークな視点を貫いた、実に楽しい読み物である。
彼らの言葉からは、時に癒され、元気をもらい、吹き出して笑える娯楽的要素も多分にふくんでいる。

この手の本が苦手な方にこそ、ぜひ読んでいただきたい、
実に楽しい本であると保証する。

中学生のバウマン君は世界中のたくさんの人に
「人生でいちばん大事なことってなんですか？」
という手紙を出して、その返事を本にしました。

タクシーの運転手さんからマザーテレサまで
いろんな人の「人生でいちばん大事なこと」
が書かれています。

自分の人生を振り返るいいきっかけになりました。
とてもとても深い言葉がいっぱいつまっている本です。

人にプレゼントする本、ナンバー１がこの本です。
自分がこの本から元気をもらったから、
人にもこの本をあげる。
読んだ友人達は、別のお友達に見せたりしているようです。
大人になると忘れてしまう『なぜ？』って気持ち。
『あなたにとっての人生とは何ですか？』
この簡単な問いに答えを出せない自分。
考えさせられます。
こんなことってあるの？？っていうような著名人にも果敢に答えを求めた著者。
スゴイ・・この一言です。
私の中でこの本は何度も読み返したい本ナンバー１です♪
