船戸さん初のオリジナル漫画の第三巻！
やっと出たか~という待ちに待った「春の賛歌」の続編。

第一巻からぶっ飛びましたが、第二巻でライナスが救われ、
少しホッとしてたのもつかの間、ドカンときましたね~（笑）
正直、私はドロドロした話よりもサラサラした話のほうが
好きなのですが、この「あんだろ」は好き嫌い関係なく
読ませてしまう強大な引力を持っています。船戸さんはご自身のことを「フリーイラストレーター」
と称しておりますが、「漫画家」と変えても差し支え
ないのではないか？とこの作品を読んでから常々感じています。
これだけ描ける漫画家さんってなかなかいませんし。

船戸さん恒例の加筆修正は良いのですが、
一年に一冊のペースだといつ終わるんだ？！という
気持ちから星一つ減らして四つ。
でもオススメです！
ヴィクトリア朝時代の美しくも醜い愛憎劇、
ぜひお試しください。

一巻から通して、シリアスで仄暗い作風で、どろどろとした愛憎劇が
展開されていましたが、益々目が離せません。

主人公の家庭教師、レイチェルは、教え子達とだんだんと心を通じ
あわせることができ、仕事に打ち込んでゆくのですが、
次男・ウィリアムの策謀によって、翻弄されてゆきます。
二人とも、聡明で理性の人なのですが、それぞれ歪みを持っています。
その歪みが露呈されたときの展開といったら、衝撃的でした。
読者は、ただ「ええ！？」と唸るのみでしょう。

話は重めですが、作者の細やかできれいな描線によって、美しく仕上がっています。
（３巻は多少荒くなってるのでちょっと残念）
なぜか何度も読み返してしまう、そんな作品です。

待ってました！の第３巻。
ヴィクトリア朝時代の独特の暗さ・陰湿感がよく伝わってきます。
なんだろ…この雰囲気は…作者の画風が物語の本質ととてもマッチしています。

『エマ』は台詞を少なくして読者に余韻を残してくれているなら、こちらは台詞の多さからくる迫力と威圧感。
この世界を受け入れるには相当覚悟が必要かと…。

ただし、１・２巻を読んで復習することをお忘れなく！
『エマ』が東の横綱なら『Under the Rose』は西の横綱です。

作者がどのような終着点にたどり着くのかが楽しみです。
