かもめ食堂は、映画を先に見てから、原作を読みました。

映画を見て、基本のストーリーを知っている人にも楽しめる本だと思います。
原作には映画で描かれていなかった部分が読むことが出来ます。それは主人公サチエの思考やどうやってフィンランドにやって来たのかとか家族構成とか。

映画はかもめ食堂の日々がふんわりと柔らかく描かれていて、主人公のサチエ、旅行者でかもめ食堂に居着いたミドリ、マサコが演じた女優さんの個性も見事に際立ち、不思議な雰囲気を醸し出していますが、原作を読むとそれぞれの事情が解り、サチエ、ミドリ、マサコの人となりが少し分かるようになり、三人の姿が地に足をつくようになります。

夢のような出来事や突飛？と思える設定もありますが（そもそも、三人がフィンランドで出会うこと自体が突飛ではあるのですが）、それこそ読ませる楽しい物語。

そして、この話を読んでいると、美味しい御飯を食べたくなります。
映画は映像の強みもあってか、画像の出てくるおにぎりやシナモンロールが食べたくなりました。
ですが原作は、勿論おにぎりやシナモンロール、そしておいしいコーヒーも飲みたくなりますが、何より自分にとって本当においしいと思う食べ物が食べたくなるような気がします。
例えば、美味しい食パンをカリッと焼いてバターを塗ったものや、お母さんが握ってくれたおにぎり、風邪を引いた時に作ってもらったようなお野菜をたくさん入れた煮込みうどん。
自分の心の奥にあるおいしい記憶を呼び覚まし、幸せな気持ちになれる一冊です。

映画は見ていないのですが、ずっと気になっていました。（小林聡美さんのパンのＣＭで何となく雰囲気はつかんでいましたが）
読み終えたあとのほんわかした気持ちがすべて…かな？やっぱり、予想通りの作品でした。
意外な出来事とか、あっと思わせるようなどんでん返しとか、そんな小細工は一切必要ないんだなあ…と。
ヘルシンキに行けば「かもめ食堂」があって、凛としたサチエさんと不器用だけれど前向きに生きようとするミドリさんとマサコさん、この三人と日本かぶれのトンミ君が出迎えてくれるような…本気でそう思えるような素敵なお話です。

実は映画は見ていません。
先入観なく読めたのが良かったと思っています。

小説というより「物語」のような雰囲気の出だしから小さなわくわくを感じます。
主人公からは芯の通った強さ、大らかさを感じます。
物語全体からは、しんとした、気持ちの良い静けさを感じます。

個人的には、主人公のお父さんと、地元民の噂話が良かったです。
少しゆっくりしたいと思っている人にお薦めの１冊です。
