とある女性のいわゆる「女性の生き様」を描いた素晴らしい作品です。

母親一人に育てられたその娘は、母の死を目前にして、さまざまなことを知っていく過程が実に良く表現されています。

母親といえども一人の人間。
そして一歩家を出れば、娘の知らない女性であり、どれだけの人に信頼されているか・・・。

そんな女性の人生が、何とも言えぬ優しさに包まれて描かれています。

大きく涙するシーンはありませんが、心が温まるお話です。

四国を舞台にした背景が、情緒豊かさをさらに深くしてくれています。


ページ数も少なく、一ページあたりの字数も少ないので、短時間でさらっと読めてしまいます。
その分、ボリュームを求める方には少々物足りなさを感じるかも知れません。

死期の迫った母の元へ帰った娘。
これまで知らなかった母の、苛烈な生き様を知る事になります。

道ならぬ恋に生き、最期までその恋を貫き通した母。
女々しい部分を見せず、きっぱりと顔あげて背筋を伸ばし、誰に頼ることなく
その恋の結晶である娘を愛した。

いつでもその凛とした姿と、激しい言葉の裏に他人への深い理解と愛があった母。
そんな母に叱られ、諭された人たちがやがて周囲に集って、たくさんの人達に囲まれていた母。

阿波踊りのこみ上げるような情熱と熱気の描写が素晴らしく、母親の苛烈な生き様と重なります。

小説のクライマックス、阿波踊りの会場ですれ違う、父と母を見つめる娘。
一度も視線を投げなかった母は、しかし、今でも文字通り全身全霊を捧げて父を愛しているのだと
最後の最後に分かります。
その愛の深さに涙しました。

一人の女性の悲恋話に終わらせず、生きる事への情熱を見せられたかのような、そんな読後感がありました。

映画は見ていませんが、小説は間違いなく素晴らしいです。

2年前に母を見送りました。
そして今、父が闘病中のなか、この本を手に取りました。
お龍さんの啖呵は、いつもいつも私が感じていることで
本当にスカッとしました。
実際、私も同じようなことを病院側へ言った事があります。
でも、現実は何も変わらない上、山のような言い訳と
咲子に電話してきた看護士のような逆ギレを受けただけでした。
母と子のつながり、というテーマに終始することなく
命の尊厳とは？医療とは？ということを問うすばらしい
小説だと思います。
献体された方へ当時医学生だった方が書かれた巻末の文章と共に、
すべての医療に従事される方、介護にかかわる方にぜひ読んで頂きたい。
