料理研究家の方によりシンプルライフの本です。
文庫本なら「買い」だと思います。

住まいは青山（「骨董のおおはら」の店主でもあります）、
2度のイギリス留学経験、今でも1年の4分の1はイギリス、
（多分、執筆当時60代後半か70代だと思われます）
と、ちょっと一般の人とは感覚が違う面もありますが、
大いに参考になります。

たとえばキッチンで必要なものなど。
一人暮らし、結婚生活などを始めるにあたり、
何を準備したらいいのか分からず、
鍋が足りない、ボールが足りない、といって
どんどん増やしてはいませんか？

正直、大原さんのレベルは「お見事！」の一言で、
ここまで徹底できたら気持ちいいだろうなぁ、とは思いますが、
大原さんが一人暮らしである、ということも大きいと思います。

しかし、少しでも生活をシンプルにしたい、と
考えている方だったら、ぜひ手に取るべき本だと思います。
何が必要で、何が必要でないか、
人生で必要なものとは果たして何か？
そういうことを教えてもらえる本だと思います。

なにぶん、料理研究家なのでキッチン面に
紙幅が割かれていることも、個人的にはうれしかったです。

収納、インテリア、生活術、ライフスタイル提案・・・
おしゃれな本が数あれど、私の原点はこの1冊！！
人間何が大切なのか？自分が何を求めているのか？
どういう生活がしたいのか？
生まれて初めて考えるきっかけとなった。

私はシンプルが好きだ。
沢山なものに囲まれるより、広い空間に居たい。
そう気づかせてくれた大切な大切な本。

大原照子さんのライフスタイルがこと細かに描かれていて、とても素敵な内容でした。「イギリスは生ゴミが少ない」という文には感銘をうけました。それ以来、果物や野菜の皮は極力薄く剥き、なるべく茎の部分なども捨てずに使うようになりました。「ムダな洋服が少ないと管理がラク」というのも実感しました。この本を読んで、自分の服を断腸の思いで減らしましたが、その結果まんべんなく服を活用出来るようになり、一着一着を大切にするようになりました。ものが少ない方がゆたかな暮らしが出来ることを気づかせてくれた本でした。文章も、おちゃめな大原さんのお人柄がにじみでていて、読んでいてとても楽しい本でした！
