作家にはいろいろなタイプがあり、平凡な作家がある作品をきっかけに大化けすることがあるのだと、この作品で知った。作者で言えば、この作品の次の「虚貌」が、そのきっかけにあたるのであろう。
「虚貌」以降の、「火の粉」「犯人に告ぐ」はいずれも秀作であり、お薦めできる作品であるが、この本は、驚くほど退屈だった。どこかで面白くなるかとしれないと、2週間かけてなんとか300ページまでたどり着いたが、そこで断念し、残りの200ページは読んでいない。
作者には失礼かもしれないが、こちらも時間とお金という対価を払うわけだから、厳しいレビューにさせてもらいました。

篠子の出てくる２作品は、正直なところあまり面白くない。文章がくどいのと、文語と口語がごっちゃになってる。

柔道シーン、スキーのシーンは臨場感もあって、読み応えがあるのだけれど、虚貌の元アイドルの女の子に比べて、篠子があまりにも「作られた」感のある人物設定で、苦悩や葛藤がまったく伝わってこない。深紅もそう。張りぼてに都合のいい設定だけをくっつけたような便利キャラみたい。

雫井さんは一作ごとにめきめきと力をつけている方なので(虚貌→火の粉→犯人に告ぐの成長は圧巻！）、今の筆力でぜひ再びチャレンジして欲しいジャンルではあります。

ドーピング問題で柔道会を離れた篠子は、友人・深紅の紹介もあってアルペンスキーチームのメンタルコーチに就任する。そんなある日、チームに同行する学者から、ある書類の輸送を依頼されるのだが…。

雫井脩介のデビュー作『栄光一途』の続編で、望月篠子、佐々木深紅らも再登場。彼女らのキャラクターは、前作よりも更にハッキリして魅力的になったと思うし、前作、絶賛された柔道の試合のシーンと同様、今回のアルペンスキーレースのシーンの迫力は満点。ミステリとしての出来も悪くは無い。
が、最初から「ドーピングしている選手を探す」という目的がハッキリしていた前作に比べると、序盤のテンポが今一歩。シリーズモノとして、前作からの経緯だとかを説明する必要があったのかもしれないが、本格的に物語が動き出すまでかなり長い。そこまでがちょっと退屈に感じてしまい、前作のように最初からどんどん物語に入ることが出来なかった。
悪くはないのだが、前作と比較すると今一歩。
