私が以前から日本人メジャリーガーで一番すごいなと思っていたのが
長谷川選手です。現地へのとけ込み方が一番進んでいるし、
知性とユーモアを感じさせます。
他の超一流選手のようにずば抜けたものを持っていない自分が
やっていくにはアジャストメント（適応）する力が必要と悟ります。
自分の弱点を冷静に分析し、処方箋を書いて、地道に実行するという

繰り返しなのです。何だか職場のＰＤＣＡサイクルみたいですね。

面白かったのは負け試合に中継ぎで登板した時の話。本来彼は自分を
外角勝負のピッチャーと位置づけていますが、この時は内角を
徹底的に攻めて、むしろそれでめった打ちになる事を望みました。
これで相手は長谷川がむきになって内角勝負をするピッチャーという

間違った情報が刷り込まれ、次回からの対戦で外角がより有効に
使えるという訳です。釣りでいうところの撒き餌でしょう。
目先の事だけでなく、より先のことを考えての準備が長いシーズンを
戦いぬくのに必要という教訓を読みとる事ができます。

１９９７年に渡米してから丸４年ずっと一緒にいつづけてくれた

奥様に感謝を述べるあたりは著者の人柄がにじみ出ている部分かも
知れません。これを書いた２０００年末でイチローが１番または
２番を打てるチームに行くのがいいとコメントしていますが、
ずばり的中しています。

優れた洞察力と実行力、揺るがない信念を持っているのが分かります。

目標の大切さを感じさせる本だった。
とりわけ新鮮だったのは、アメリカで生活することが目的だったということ。
目標に向かって何をなすべきかを考え、地道に努力する姿に感銘した。
自己啓発本や戦略本などで語られていることの、実践版といえるかも。

メジャー（米国）で得た知識，経験を出版してくれるシリーズの第一弾。
日本プロ野球経験者による“この手の自伝本”程「苦労話」が出て来ないところが新鮮。語り口調も硬くなく、一緒に雑談してる様な感じで肩がこらずに読める。
正直物足らない感も有るが、今後もどんどん出版して行って欲しい。
