誰にも恐れられる主人公桐生の心に残るあの過去、今まさにひどい立場にいる
玉城、
桐生をねらう者ども、玉城の周りの女達、作品中には恐怖がゴロゴロ転がっている。あなたはどの恐怖が１番いやですか？

でも私は桐生の過去の場面は泣きながら読みました。
怖くて切なくて弱くて痛くて恥ずかしくて悪くて言えなくて・・・。

この作品は私にとって忘れられない名作です。

上巻で｢無間地獄」のアウトラインを知ってしまった私、恐る恐る下巻に手をだしてしまいました。やっぱりジェットコースターの下り状態。

下巻では主人公は地獄へ突き落とされる「玉城」、さらにおちて行く様がすごい。一方で罠にはまっていき、封印していた過去がばれてしまうこの本全体の悪の主人公「桐生」。壮絶にして小気味いいﾃﾝﾎﾟでどんどん自分も地獄へとひきずりこまれていくのがなんだかわかっていく、しかもそれは快感かも。怒濤のラストに書かれた背負った過去を拒否することへの葛藤は強烈。騙しの手口の導入部はあまりに専門的で少々中だるんでしまうが、地獄への旅へは必要な知識かもしれません。

文章中に書かれる絶叫の言葉（言葉にはなっていないのだが）は呪詛ともいえるおぞましさがある。あとは人の表情の豊かな表現力、それは新堂ワールドには不可欠だ。とにかくはまる、ともかくはめる、それが｢無間地獄」の味である。

下巻では、今まで女性を食い物にしてきたエステサロンのトップ
セールスマン玉城が、これでもかと言う位悲惨な目に合う。
その様は滑稽ですらある。
上巻から一気に展開がスピードアップし、玉城の悲惨な状況は
それなりに面白いのだが、やはり何かが足りない気がする。
暗黒小説に必要な要素を網羅し、ラストもそつなくまとめているのだが、
逆にうまくまとめすぎている感がして、大藪春彦や馳星周などの作品
と比較すると、今ひとつ物足りない。
