「ガンダム、何でそんなに夢中なの？」
男性諸氏にそう聞くと、雨あられのように降り注ぐ専門用語の数々。
語られれば語られるほど、私の心はドン引き。

私も作者つながりで本書を手に取ったクチですが、そんな非ガンダムな私が、この本のお陰で、なんと人様にガンダムを語れるようになりました！

これは語りたい。
語りたくなる男性の気持ちがわかります。モビルスーツから人の闘争本能から、果ては生命の原初と終末まで際限なく語り尽くしたい。
読んで、楽しんで、考えさせられる、20年以上続いたガンダムシリーズの永遠のガイドブックたりえます。
福井さんのガンダム人生、しかと真正面に受け取りましたよ！

二千年以上の間ひたすら地球への帰還を待ち続ける「月の民」がいた。
彼らの女王は巨大機動兵器モビルスーツを以て地球帰還作戦を開始した。
いち早く献体として地球に降下していた主人公ロラン・セアックは、ターンエーガンダムを駆り、月の民との平和を望みながらも戦いを始めてしまう。

アニメ「ターンエーガンダム」のノベライズである著者の同名小説を文庫化に際し改題したものが本作。
アニメを観る前に本作を読んだのだが、ひとつの物語として十分に愉しむことができた。

「ＧＵＳＯＨ」や「Ｔプラス」といった著者のファンならおなじみの小道具もチラと登場したり、アニメでは描かれなかった過去のガンダムの様々なシーンも描写されるなど上中下巻通して愉しむことができる。

アニメ版をひとの「善」の物語とするならば、本作はひとの「悪」の物語といってよい、全く趣の異なるハードな内容となっており、アニメを観た後に読むと衝撃的すぎるとも感じられた。
ボタンの掛け違いのような些細な誤解が、いつしか取り返しのつかない歯車の軋みとなって瓦解する衝撃のラストへと疾走する著者の筆の冴えは見事。

あまりにもガンダム的でマニアすぎるきらいはあるものの、元来著者の作風がそういうものなのだ、と思えばそれも気にならなかった。
上中下巻通して、「福井晴敏のファンであり、アニメ版ターンエーガンダム原作者富野由悠季のファンでもある」私にとっては祝福すべき傑作。

福井晴敏氏が描く富野世界に脱帽。
ガンダムが、このような作家と出会えた事をしあわせに思う。
アニメの∀が苦手だった人にこそ、この本を読んで欲しい。
アニメの∀は苦手でしたが、この小説はとても感動しました。
ガンダムが、ロボットアニメから文芸に昇華した感動を体感して欲しい。
