遭難した兄妹＝練と千華子は、ジャングルの中をティカル目指して進んだ。ようやくたどり着いた二人が目にしたのは、異様な赤いピラミッド。
二〇〇〇年八月から世紀をまたいで一年間。隔月で刊行された書き下ろし長編ファンタジーの第三巻。


第三巻「神々と死者の迷宮（上）」の感想は「いよいよファンタジーだ！」でした。ついに現実と非現実が分離します。
地上では、クーデターのあおりを食ってとらわれの身となった両親＝賢と千鶴子。
一方、練と千華子は地下の迷宮へ。
賢と千鶴子の救出への行動が、現実的で、果敢な分だけ
「彼らの努力は報われないのではないか？」
と、手の届かない世界へ足を踏み入れる練と千華子に不安に駆られる第三巻でした

　　「不安から身を守ろうとすると、感情が麻痺するのだ。
　　　しかし、感情が麻痺していくのと反比例するかのように皮膚感覚は
　　　過敏になっていく。
　　　何日も野宿をして、常に過度の緊張感を強いられていたせいか、背中
　　　の一部や首の後が鋭敏になっている。
　　　その部分が周囲に対するセンサーになっているのだ。

　　　遥か後方で、何かが動いても、即座に気付くだろう。」
　　
　　第１、２巻と同じく150ページくらいなので読みやすい。
　　どんどん深くなっているのではまっていきます。
　　今回も１時間半かかりました。

ようやく辿りついた古代遺跡、新たに現れるなぞの少年。
登場するすべてが新鮮です。上と外の今までの二冊の展開が退屈だとおもわれた方は、ここまでは、ぜひとも読んでみてください。
この3冊目から急ピッチでストーリーは展開します。
