最初、百合の性格が腹立つくらいに嫌だった。
対人恐怖、というより強迫性障害に近い感じのする
精神的におそらく病んでいるその性格に
こちらが苛立った。
その百合が四国のとある島に旅に出る。
その旅先で出会った風変わりなバーテンダーとドイツ人。
この二人も本当に変わっているのだけど、
その素性は『おっ！』驚くようなものだった。
そんな二人と過ごすうちに、少しずつ変わっていく百合。
その心の変わりようが
まぁ、急と言えば急だけど、
人というのは、ちょっとしたことがきっかけで
自分を変えることが出来るんだ、ということを
思い出させる。

百合と姉の関係をもっと深めていったら
別の物語が出来るんじゃないかな、と
ふと感じた。

主人公の彼女と青い目のドイツ人とバーテンダーの共通点は精神に問題を抱えているということだったんだ。
だからなんとなく通じ合えるものがあり、彼女のホテルの滞在期間楽しく（少し微妙だが）すごせたのだ。
そして私も第四の仲間に入れてもらえたような気分で読んでいた。
マティアスが小さい頃、友達に混じってサッカーをして遊んだこと。それを「これで合っているよね」と自分に確認していたこと。
あーわかるわかる。私もそういうところがあるんだ。
この年代の人たちはこういうことして楽しまなければならないという脅迫観念のような感じで、私も自分をおさえて必死にみんなの仲間に入って楽しんでいる振りをしていたっけ。
バーテンダーの過去と現在のギャップにもびっくりだったが、3人とも優雅なのは、お金には苦労していないというところか。バーテンダーは不明だが。
自分も豪華なホテルに滞在している気分ですいすい読めた。

他の方の評価が高かったので、読んでみました。
西さんの「さくら」や「きいろいゾウ」は面白かったので、
今回も期待していたのでしが・・・

主人公・蒔田さんは周りに気を遣い気を遣い、日々を
送ってきて、そんな自分に疲れきって自己嫌悪に苦しんで
いたそうです。その彼女は、『周りの人の苛立ちを、過剰な
までに感じ取ることが出来る』そうです。

あとがきに、西さんが、この本を執筆中はとても疲れていたと
お書きになっています。
そういう事情を知って、ﾜﾀｼは残念ですが、余計に苛立ちを
覚えました。結局は作者の自己満足に付き合わされた、そんな
感じです。

これからの作品に、また、期待したいと思います。
