　大西巨人の超傑作『神聖喜劇』を渾身の力業で漫画化した作品です。原作に感動し、大笑いし、まじめに考えた人なら、きっとこの漫画版も好きになるのではないかと思わされます。少なくとも私は、忙しいのに読み始めたら止まらず、台詞だらけの2冊500ページあまりをイッキ読みしてしまいました。
　基本的なストーリーは原作に忠実です。その内容や思想性についてまとめるのは私の手に余りますが、透徹した戦争批判・差別批判であるとともに、そのようなスローガンに収まりきらない「人間」のあらゆる面、可能性を網羅する観察記録のような趣もあります。
　印象深かった点を一つ。普通、小説がマンガやアニメになると、どうしても「キャラのイメージが違う〜」と思ってしまいますが、そしてこの作品でも確かに違ってはいるのですが、私は最初の方で主要登場人物が初めて描かれたとき、「ああ、あの冬木ってこんな顔してたのか」等と感じて、不覚にも目頭が熱くなってしまいました。木訥な絵柄ですが、底知れないリアリティに引きずり込まれてしまったのです。

自己の生きている状況を「喜劇」として、観るというのはかなり力がいる。ましてや、「神聖なる喜劇」として　観ると　いう立場を維持し続ける意志力。そう　観ることで　冷ややかに　自己の立場を　貫こうとしている。舞台は　敗戦間近　対馬。そこの日本帝国陸軍。
大西巨人という作家・・・大西巨人は　『神聖喜劇』を完成させた。奇怪なる　文体。その緻密な　世界は　彼の文体でないと　描かれないことに納得する。妥協しない　大西巨人。　私たちは彼の世界に屈して彼の世界に入り込まざるを得ない。そこは　かって私たちが知ることができない未知の世界。全く　異なる　世界を　私たちは　見ることができる。大西巨人の『神聖喜劇』は　そのようなもの。天才と言うべきか　奇才と言うべきか　私には　わからず。
かって　私は『神聖喜劇』を　読み通す努力をした。彼の世界に入る儀式は大変であった。
今、大西巨人の『神聖喜劇』は　いつ映画化してもいいように　脚本が　別の人によってきあがっている。
そして、粘り強く　漫画化した創造者がいたとは。おどろきと感動。新しい体験をしてみましょう。早く。

大西巨人の原作を紐解いた事のある人ならこの作品の漫画化という作業がどれほどの大仕事だったかが分かるだろう。事実この作品は十年という歳月をかけて作り上げられ（原作は二十五年）、その仕事は見事に成功の域に達している。しかしこれを読んで原作を知った気になってはいけない。原作に忠実に描かれてはいるけれどやはり奥行きに限界はある。それはまったくこの漫画の評価を落とすものではないし、原作者もこれらの作品は別々の独立した作品として読まれるべきだとも言っているが、やはり原作あっての本書、原作を知っているがゆえに楽しめた部分は少なくない。原作への最良のガイドにもなると解説で中条氏は語っているが、僕としてはやはり原作の後に本書を読まれる事をおすすめする。もちろんガイドとしても一向に問題はない。つまりは、原作を読んでみて欲しいという一言につきる。
