この本のテーマである「物のしまいかた、使い方」については、人それぞれ個人的なことであって、著者もそれを強調されています。自分のやり方は他人の参考には全くならないと書かれています。

内容的には、「窓の外の眺めのために洗濯物は干さない。」には、私はお天気のよい日には外に干した方が気持ちがいいから、美しく工夫して干す。
「化粧品の類が虐げられている。」には、毎日自分が手にするものは使って気持ちよいデザインのものを選んで、大切に使ってしまう。
「本や雑誌は装丁がよいものを一番上にして積み重ねておく。」は、読みたい本がすぐに取り出せないからとても不便だと思う。
というように自分との違いを感じましたが、それはとても個人的なことなので、ここでよいとか悪いとかは言えません。

堀井さん独特のテービルまわりを伝える本の世界は、私も憧れをもって見て来ました。
ただ最近のように早いペースでエッセイを出版されると、読み手に伝えたいことがしっかりと整理されていないような気がしました。私は１人の読者として、この本には文章の読みにくさを感じました。
仮に著者のイメージを抜きに冒頭の数ページを読んでみると、文体も内容も女学生の作文的です。それは大人のエッセイとも大人の絵本ともいえない中途半端さです。

この本を読んだ後に、同じ著者の「トレー のせる はこぶ おく 」を開いてみました。こちらは気軽に何度も手に取りたくなる本です。エッセイよりもこちらのスタイルの方が堀井さんの世界を伝えてくれると思います。

私、実はマニアックなくらいの堀井ファンなのですが（著書も伝説の幻の本、「アルファベットダイアリー」以外はすべて所有。）、今回の本は、敢えておすすめできません。まず、堀井家を隅々まで紹介するのなら、もっと大版のビジュアルな構成で出版すべきだったのに、活字ばかりでくど過ぎ。一体エッセイとして楽しめば良いのか、収納本として参考にすべきなのか、その辺が明確になっていない。堀井コレクターならば、垂涎必読本なのだろうが、単に「あの堀井さんの収納のノウハウ本~！」と思って買うような内容とは思えない。彼女のモノに対する執着や気持ちは、ファンならば理解できるかもしれないが、普通の人には多分全くつまらないと思う。何でプラスチックの大工道具箱の中身まで見せられなければならないのか、理解に苦しむ。「男性的」で潔い、せっかくの堀井さん趣味の「ご自宅覗き見」のチャンスを、充分生かせなかったようで、残念で残念で仕方がない。

日々我が家の収納に悩む私は、この本で少し癒されました。収納は人それぞれのやりかたがあって、自分が気に入ってれば多少の不便があったりしても良いんだなー、と思いました。「暮らしが面白く展開するしまい方に挑戦してみようと思ってくれたら」というフレーズに納得！自分が気持ちよくすごせれば、少し片付いてないところがあっても、大丈夫。この本は収納に対して前向きな気持にしてくれます。堀井さんのおうちのレイアウト写真や間取り図もあって楽しめました！
