文章が平易で、内容も難しくないので、スラスラ読める作品だった。
コンゲームをしかける（敵役）相手のカジノ経営者・沢田が、「石橋を叩いて壊す」くらいの慎重な性格の人物という設定になっており、「こんな二番煎じのちんけなFAKEに本当に引っかかるのか？そんなわけないだろう。」と思いながら読むことになるのだが、読者にそう思わせること自体が、作者の仕掛けたFAKEなのだろう。
本の帯に「名画スティングを超える驚愕の大仕掛け」と書いてあり、また、作者自身もインタビューに答え「スティングへのオマージュ」と答えているが、これはいかがなものだろうか？「スティング」を見たことがある読者は、最後に何が起きるか、予想がついてしまうわけで・・・

本作品は、2005年版このミスで17位を獲得した。2004年文春ベスト10ではランキング外だった。

帯にはずいぶんおおげさな煽り？が書かれていますが、ちょっと期待はずれです。人物ひとりひとりの描写もいまひとつ、仕掛けも最後に「へ？」という感じ。もちろん詳細には書けませんがある程度書いてしまうと大枠わかってしまう・・・
　まあ、火曜サスペンス2時間もの、くらいのお話でしょうか。

帯にも書いてあって、それに魅かれて読んでみました。

「スティング」を超える、と言ってしまったからには、読む側にも、それなりの「期待感」と「身構え」が生じてしまいます。
その上での勝負、となりますが・・・・。
確かに、仕掛けは近代的で大掛かりにはなってるかもしれませが「スティング」の方が２枚も３枚も上手、ですね。

まぁ、それは騙される人の数からも明らかです。
詳しいことはネタバレ（特に「スティング」のね）するんで書けませーん(^_^;)。
