最高裁には証言台が無い、ティミス像の目隠し・・・等の理由を知ると非常に面白かった。最高裁の口頭弁論で「人を呼びつけるのがどういうことなのか？裁判所には少し自覚を」との著者の説諭は痛快で、よくぞツッこんで下さったと思った。他にも最高裁はしし座で、ホゲで判決が判るわ、しまいには飛脚も登場し、目からうろこの内容が満載だった。

本書で取り上げられている「国民審査」からは司法が大きい権力を持った閉鎖的な背景がはっきりと浮かび上がっている。現状の司法制度改革は履き違えた政治家の決断に、国民全体が騙されているかもしれないと、無知では済まされないアル意味怖い思いもした。

ギャグは顕在だが、著者は裁判官への畏敬を忘れていない。長官のお住まいまで行ったり、歴代全裁判官のプロフィールを載せるなどのマニアックなまでの姿勢は、地道な裏づけ取材の跡がうかがえる。期待を裏切らないおもしろさと詳細なデータが綴られており、国民審査の参考資料としても申し分がない。

内容は高度だがわかりやすい本書は繰り返し使え、タイトル通り裁判所にちなんだ辞書のようでもある。裁判がらみのテレビ報道を見るたび、本書での知識がフル活用でき得したような嬉しい気分になる。
