　適度なイジワルが小気味よく、自虐ネタで笑わせつつ、地方出身の人のよさでホッとさせる，これが本来のハヤシ・エッセイの魅力だったと思う。
　ところが本書はどうだろう。上から見下ろすような目線で周囲の中年女達を扱下ろし、読者に説教をたれる。これじゃァただの口うるさいオバサンだ。
　一昔前に持てはやされたブランドについて店舗や商品名を出しながら語るのは、さながらタイアップ記事のようだ（しかもそれが本書の価格に反映されているようには思えない）。
　どんなに多忙か知らないが、跋文ひとつないのは手抜きをしているか、読者をバカにしているような気がしてならない。

具体的には１８８頁。「私の夫は見た目が素敵である、というテーゼ
から導き出されたある結論」の項（すべて、目次はこの調子で
冗長、体言止めもある、たとえば「ＸＸＸＸと言う私」１７８頁。）：

引用しますが、直後に、括弧でくくった「失礼」をfollow
させているものの

１）汗っかきのデブ
２）貧相な小男
３）ぽっちゃりとした醜男

こういうのって不特定多数向けの一般書籍（初出は雑誌ストーリー）にかきますかねぇ。
こう羅列されては、顔をしかめざるをえない。

まあ、一部ですが、品がないですね。故意にでしょうか、うっかりでしょうか。

装丁的には品があるような気がしましたが（封筒ですね）、中味には
品はなかったと感じました。

作者の好きなエルメスやギャルソンなどのブランド・ファッション、エステやダイエット、旅行やグルメにオペラ・演劇鑑賞などが中心の内容となっていますが、
多分、数年前のを読んでいても全く変化のない内容といつものリバウンド生活でこの手のエッセイは、もう飽きてきたな〜〜って感じです。
