父親が職を失い、広大な敷地を持つ父親の実家に居候することになった小学校6年生の奈都。父親も母親も留守にする間その古くて立派な屋敷の中で一1人で（家に親戚はいるけれど）過ごさなくてはならなくなって、そこに同級生の「ねえちゃん」である、古い物好きな美しく礼儀正しく大胆な中学三年生のさゆりが初対面ながらも家に泊まってくれることになり・・・
「家」の言い伝え、隠し部屋さがし、他人のような親戚のこと、過去の事件の秘密。
表情のある二人の女の子の会話が軸なので、ミステリなのですがテンポよく気持ちよく読み進められます。ミステリと言ってもトリックがどうという話ではないのできっちりした筋立てが好きな方には向かないかもしれませんが読後もよく、秋の夜長にはとてもよい本でした。

奈都は、父に実家の古い大きな旧家で一人で過ごすことになってしまう。この旧家には、なんとも不吉な言い伝えがあり…。★ワクワクドキドキ冒険気分で読む事が出来楽しかったです。読了後もすがすがしくお勧めの作品。★たしかに、昔ながらの旧家ってちょっと怖いです。しかし、この奈都の怖い経験が、なんとも寒々しかった家族をほんわかとあたたかく変えてラストがとても良かったです。

書店でまず表紙のイラストが目に付いた。うーん・・　なんか面白そうだなと手にとってみた。
ぱらぱらとめくって少し立ち読み。おお、なんか昔の屋敷に隠し部屋だとか屋根裏の冒険だとかわくわくする展開だ。
しかも主人公の女の子二人の描写がとてもいい。なんとも生き生きと描かれている。
こういう話は結構好きだ。結局レジに並んで買ってしまった。
ちょっとした事件騒動もあるのだが適度なサスペンスと登場人物たちの優しさを感じさせてくれる読後感の爽やかな「ほのぼのミステリー」である。
