ひさびさに小説を読んで泣きました。西さんの作品は何かしらはっとさせられる単語が入っており、それが心の琴線に触れると、もう涙が止まらなくなります。表題作の「しずく」もよかったし、「木蓮」「シャワーキャップ」も大好きです。今まで読んだ作品の中でこの本が一番よかったです。長編でも好きな作品がいくつかありますが、短編のほうが西さんの持つ、淡々としてあっさりしているのに心にどうしようもなく響いてくるという作風がより強く感じることができました。

女と女のつながりを描く短編集。
ねことねこだったり母と娘だったり幼馴染だったり
旅の女と地元の女だったり色々な女と女のつながり。
どれも最初の一行からぐっとひきこまれて
一気に最後まで読んでしまった。
読後ほっこりしたりしんみりしたりうるっとしたり
するけれど、どれも心に染み入る暖かい話。
こういう話が、今まさに読みたかったんだよなぁと
思わせる本だった。

わたしは、表題作でもある「しずく」がいちばんすきです。
読んでいると、猫を撫でているような、あのやわらかでやさしい、
愛おしさがこみ上げてくるから。

シャワーキャップも好き。
意地っ張りなわけでも、高慢ちきなわけでもないけど、
ちょっと不器用な感じが、自分と重なって共感できるから。

「さくら」も読みましたが、西さんは、なんともいえない、
心の琴線に触れる物語を描くのが上手なんですね。
表紙も、シンプルで優しい、部屋に飾っておきたくなるものが多いし。
今、一番好きな小説家かも。

「そうね。そう。いつだってわたしのそばには誰か居るんだわ」
と、感じられる1冊です。
