赤瀬川 原平
1937年、横浜市生まれ。武蔵野美術学校(現・武蔵野美術大学)中退。’60年代、「ネオ・ダダイズム」の前衛芸術家として活躍。その後、尾辻克彦のペンネームで小説を執筆、’81年、『父が消えた』で芥川賞受賞。「ライカ同盟」会員。路上観察学会の「長老」としても知られる(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

いま人気がある金属カメラ、その数には限りがある。
しかし、好きな人は今後も増え続けるかもしれない。だから価値が上がる。
中古がほしいわけでなく、欲しいカメラが中古しかないのだ。
だから益々ほしくなる。外から見れば病気だが本人は健康の秘訣である。
好きなことに没頭できることほど素晴らしいことはない。

自分のカメラの愉しみ方を強く持っている著者に、憧れを抱いてしまった。
よいカメラは道具というより友人である。
カメラの愉しみは、カメラを通じて多くの人と出会うこと。
そしてこの友人たちが人生を豊かにしてくれることなのかもしれない。

私は中古カメラの蒐集家ではありません。どちらかというと、その作動に不安を持つタイプで、現行品があれば新品で入手します。手持ちの２台のローライフレックス3.5Fは、すでに新品入手不可能ため中古を買った次第です。それから金属人類でもないような。プラスティックは嫌だけど、むしろ、木製暗箱が好きだし。というわけですが、この本は物凄く気に入ってます。

本書は1993年から95年にかけて「日本カメラ」に連載され、97年に単行本化され、さらに2003年に文庫本になったものです。文庫版の前書きに著者は「自分では趣味だと思っていても、デジカメだと楽だよ、となってくるのは、それがビジネス的になってきたことのあらわれでだろう」と述べています。まさに慧眼とはこのことでしょう。

私もコンパクトデジタルカメラを使用しています。フィルムカメラで撮影する際のメモ帖としての役割が大きいのですが。そしてそのメモ帖を元に原稿を書いたり、ついでにその映像をブログに載せたりしています。このような作業はまさに「ビジネス的」なわけです。しかし一眼レフのレンズを持ちながら、そのデジタルボディは持っていません。そのお陰でたまに飛び込んできた雑誌の仕事もなくなってしまったという現実がありますが。

実は、同じ作者が執筆された「ライカ同盟」という作品を買うつもりが、何を間違ったかクリックしてしまいました。しかし、「ライカ同盟」と比べて格段にカメラウィルスの濃い内容に満足しました。何故か蛇腹式カメラが欲しくなる文字感染する作品です。
