初めて山本さんの小説を読みましたが、江戸での生活をしっかりと丁寧に記述しています。

江戸が舞台になっている一膳飯屋「だいこん」の困難を乗り越えていく話しではありますが、女主人つばきは持ち前の観察力と鋭い勘、物腰の柔らかさそして一度決めたら即座に行動できる俊敏さを活かして次々とステップアップしていく姿に惚れてしまい、購入後２日間で読み上げてしまいました。

続編をとても期待したくなる小説でした。シリーズ化になって欲しいと思います。

山本一力と浅田次郎の共通点と思うのは、一つの小説の中で、幾つもの時代が重層的に語られて行くところかも知れない。
浅田氏は、大胆かつ、細かく繰り返し、物語のアクセントに使うし、山本氏の場合、緩やかにエピソード的に差し込んでくる振りをして、実は展開そのものが大きく変わっていたりする。

この「だいこん」でも、主人公の子供時代、起業時代、現在と言った時代分けでストーリーが
展開している。

そして、主人公の父親、大工が何か、物凄く実在臭い、山本氏特有の体臭すら感じるぐらいに描かれている。まるで、山本氏の知人では無いかと思うのだが。。。

今回は、日本橋界隈を中心に描いているが、いつもながらの細かな描写、たとえば目黒行人坂の大火（多分、八百屋お七の付け火だと思うが）での半鐘を鳴らす様子や、様々な職業における特性の描き込みに感心しきり。
やっぱり、江戸庶民を書かせると、上手いなぁと思うのでした。

やっと文庫で出たという思いです。
作家買いで読んでいますが、テンポの良さと人間のおもしろさがあります。

山本一力氏の得意とするフィールルド
江戸・深川・職人・商人・家族ですが、一気に読み込める作品です。
もう一度、家族とは?
働くということは?
商い(商売)を考え、サービスとは何かを考えさせられた作品です。
