石持 浅海
1966年愛媛県生まれ。九州大学理学部を卒業後、食品会社に勤務。鮎川哲也編の『本格推理』(光文社文庫)に、秀作短編を発表したのち、光文社の新人発掘企画「カッパ・ワン」に応募した長編『アイルランドの薔薇』で、2002年に長編デビュー。2003年刊行の第二長編『月の扉』は、各種のベストテン企画に上位ランクインし、日本推理作家協会賞の候補にもなる。さらに、2005年刊行の『扉は閉ざされたまま』は、「このミステリーがすごい!」第2位と、いまもっとも期待される本格ミステリーの旗手(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

水族館で続けられる脅迫、さらに殺人事件があり、どちらも3年前の死亡事故（？）と関わりがあるように思われ・・・。
この脅迫事件犯人の手口は、変な言い方ですが、エレガントで知的で良いです。
でも、まぁミステリファンには、事件の一部は容易に解明できると思いますが・・・。
最後の犯人に対する処遇とか、ちょっと現実ではあり得ないのですが、
そこは小説と言うことで勘弁頂いて、これほど清々しいエンディングのミステリーも珍しいです。

うだるような猛暑の中で、水族館の細やかな描写は楽しかったです。

３年前、水族館で職員の片山が死んだ。その命日の日に事件は
起こった。次々と発生するトラブル。そのたびに送られてくる
メール。脅迫者の真の目的はいったい何か？翻弄される職員たち
だが、ついに最悪の事態が起こった！！

水族館という限られた空間、しかも大勢の客がいる中で、次々に
水槽に仕掛けをする犯人。職員の努力もむなしく、事態は悪化の
一途をたどる・・・。その過程のストーリーの展開が早く、読み
手を飽きさせない。途中で犯人について思い当たる人物が浮かんで
しまったが、すんなりとラストに行かないところに作者の巧妙さが
光る。ラストは、「これでよかったのかも・・・。」と思う反面、
「これでいいのか？」という気持ちがあり、微妙だった。賛否両論？
読み手の意見が分かれるのではないだろうか。

04年刊行ノベルスを文庫化した作品です．

事件やトリック，そして探偵役とミステリの要素はあるものの，
どちらかと言えば，それらを取り巻く人たちの物語というところ．

ただ，事件が起き，語り部と探偵役を中心に物語は進むのですが，
その他の人も含め，登場人物はよくも悪くも普通の人たちばかりで，
さらに，そんな彼らが序盤のうちからほとんど顔を出してしまうため，
いきなり，人物とその人間関係の把握に苦労させられることになります．

また，探偵役の推理や指示があまりにキレイにはまりすぎるようで，
事件の割には緊迫感が薄く，『読まされている』ように感じられます．

物語の結末については，かなり意見のわかれるところだと思います．
確かに，過去，現在，未来へと繋がる物語は『美しさ』がありました．
しかし，辛さと引き替えだったはずなのに，それがまるで伝わりません．
そのため，『おわりよければ』のような，過剰な美化だけが残ってしまい，
現実的でないことをさておいても，誰ひとり感情移入することができません．

また，巻末の解説でこれらをフォローするコメントがありましたが，
開き直りとも思える内容で，作品の印象を台無しにしているようです．

余談ですが，幻想的で美しい表紙はなかなかよかったと思います．
作品を読んでから見なおすと，なおよく感じられるかもしれません．
