小説というよりは、よく生きること、死ぬことというテーマについて、登場人物たちに議論させ、様々な文献を引用する論文のように思えた。主人公を徹底的に醒めた人間として書くことで、主人公と他の人間との対比を大きくさせて、思考実験をしているよう。内容は、かなりよく読める。なるほどと思うところもある。生きるのにしんどい人がこの本を読めば、どうやったら世間の苦痛に楯を立てて、自分を守って生きていけるか、そのすべが一定得られるのではないかと思う。

作者の言いたい事が言葉以上のものを持って伝わってきませんでした。ある程度の説得力は持っているけれど、何も登場人物に喋らせなくても・・・と思ってしまいます。つまり著者の言いたいことは小説という形ではなく論文か何かにした方が伝わると思うのです。

主人公や登場人物を読者が全く好きになれなず感情移入できないというのは小説として致命的だと思います。

５０歳を過ぎた今、生きるという事が何なのか判らなくなってきた私には非常に面白い本だった。途中まではちょっとしつこいのと主人公の生き方に辟易とするものも有ったが。色々な別れと再開のあとに主人公の生き方が見えてきた気がする。人を愛するとは何か、人と人とはどう触れ合っていくものなのか。親の愛とは何なのか。この本を読んで自分の悩みのかけらが少し見えた気がする。この主人公に反発する読者は多分幸せな人生を生きてきたのだろう。５年、１０年経ってから読んだ時にどう感じるか、楽しみな本の一冊と思う。
