正直、この屍蘭はちょっと落ちるのかなと思っていた。
1作目で高評価を得、
シリーズものでは普通は評価が落ちる2作目で
より高いパフォーマンスを見せたのだから、
さすがに、3作目はちょっと落ちても仕方ないなぁと
思って読み始めたら、徹夜本でした。
2作目の「動」に比べ、3作目は「静」。
「献身」にちょっと首をひねる方もいるかもしれないが、
好みによっては、こっちのほうが好きという方もいるかもしれない。


とにかくすごいシリーズだ。

前作「毒猿」がヤクザやバイオレンスといった「動」であるとすると、本作は「静」。アクションシーンはほとんど出てこない。知能犯たちを「頭脳」で追いかけていく様子は、ハードボイルドというよりは、サスペンス（夏樹静子とかの）を読んでいるような感じで、非常に楽しめた。読み終わったときは、読み終わってしまったことが残念で仕方なかったというのが正直な感想だ。
この作品は、「刑事・鮫島」というより「男・鮫島」の魅力があふれ出ているような作品で、鮫島ファンにとってはうれしい限りだ。

ここからは蛇足だが、映像化された新宿鮫シリーズの鮫島刑事は、１作目「新宿鮫」が真田広之氏で、以降館ひろし氏が何作か演っているが、本作を読むと、やはり真田氏でなければ演れない役･･･というふうに感じた。本作は、そんな作品だと思う。

前作”毒猿”と対比される作品。
今回対決する殺人者は、シリ−ズ中珍しい女性である。
凶器に少し無理がある設定が感じられるが、それをカバ−するスリルとサスペンスが
作品中を支配している。

私利私欲のため、女性の夢を食い物にする犯罪者の姿と、高潔を通す鮫島の対比が
この作品のテ−マであり、自より公に奉仕する本来の公僕である警官を鮫島を通して
描ききっている様に思う。

地味に見えるかもしれないが、シリ−ズの中では重要な作品であろう
