最初に単行本で読んだ宮部さんの本です。『探偵の財布』の話にでてくる、とあるエピソード、というか、その時の登場人物のセリフにしびれてしまい…その部分は暗誦できるほどです。陳腐な表現で恐縮ですが『人に対する優しさ』がある人にしか書けないセリフだと思います。ぜひ堪能してください。（もちろん好みの問題なので保証はできかねますが…）

宮部みゆきの作品を読むたびに、思わずうまい！と
うならされてしまうのですが、この小説もしかり。
本書の事件の面白さもさることながら、この作品の一番の醍醐味は、
なんといっても語り手である個性豊かな10個の財布たちでしょう。
事件に関係する10人の持ち主たちに、陰ながら賛同したり反対したり声援を送ったり
持ち主本人達でさえも気づかない微妙な心のうちを、
事件の真相と織り交ぜながら客観的に語ってくれます。
常に身近にいる財布にしかできない芸当であり、作者の意図には感服します。
１０の短編形式でありながら、それらをひとつの事件と組み合わせ
長編小説としても楽しませてくれる、見逃せない作品です。

どうしてこういう発想というか、着目点が出てくるのか。

財布が事件を語ってゆくという、そんな奇抜な設定も面白いが、ただ奇をてらっているわけでない事に、読み続けてゆくと気が付く。
「そこまで、現場に肉薄しながら、なぜもう少し突っ込めないんだ！ あっ、そうか、相手は財布だったんだっけ・・・」という具合。

孫の手が欲しくなるような、そんな焦燥感にも似た感情に押し流されて、読みふけってしまいますが、ご安心あれ。
ちゃんと最後には、すっきりさせてくれますよ。
