違和感を感じなかった。
台湾の刑事・郭、ホステス・奈美、殺し屋・毒猿と、サブキャラたちが丁寧に描かれているからだろう。鮫島を脇においても違和感を感じず、逆にとても良かった。
前作では新宿を揺るがす警官射殺事件、次はなんと海の向こうからやってきた殺し屋の話。それを追う郭、毒猿を想う奈美。二度言うが人物描写がとてもうまいと思う。それに国際的な話を交えた緊迫感のある展開。前作を凌ぐ(前作を「大傑作」とおいてだが)面白さだ。「新宿鮫」の本当の面白さというのは本作から始まっていると思う(前作も充分いいが)。

読み終わって思うだろう。この作品は傑作だ!(岡本太郎風)

しかし、「アクションがすごい」と聞いたが、それほどでもないような・・・、まあその点で☆-1。

『新宿鮫』の続編。

今回は台湾マフィアの頭領に裏切られた職業兇手（殺し屋）通称「毒猿」が新宿のやくざの下に逃げ込んだ頭領「葉威」を追い掛けて日本に上陸する、そして毒猿を追う台湾の刑事「郭栄民」も新宿で密かに活動を開始していた。

毒猿が復讐に動く時、不夜の街新宿に殺戮と恐怖が充満する、日本のやくざと「新宿鮫」鮫島、そして「葉」と「郭」の運命は？

空前のスピードとテアクションで繰り広げられる刑事小説の決定版。
キャラクターの設定の妙といい、前作を上回る傑作とみた。

「新宿鮫」シリーズはすべて読んでいますが、
この「毒猿」が最高であると改めて実感しているところです。
（決して他のがダメという意味ではなく）
キャラクターのエッジがしっかり立っていて、
フィクションの中の人物であるにもかかわらず
その体臭や息遣いまで感じられる気さえします。
さらに、ストーリーにも骨がある。

直木賞に選ばれたのは同シリーズの他の作品ですが、
作品としての力、磨かれ方はこちらが上と言いきってしまいます。
ごく勝手にですが。
