宮部みゆきには大きな賞を受けたり、
映画化されていたりと数多くの人気の作品がある。
この作品は宮部みゆきの作品の中ではどちらかといえば知られていないほうだろう。
しかし、真骨頂はこの作品にこそある。
圧倒的な描写力。読者の脳裏に鮮明に浮かび上がる場面場面の映像。
これほど息が詰まるような迫力を読者に与える作品をまだ私は見たことがない。

最後までノンストップの圧倒的な映像感にただただ脱帽である。

私は宮部さんの作品は、いわゆる骨太の大作（「火車」「理由」「模倣犯」等々…）や話題になったものなど、ほとんど読んできました。
それらはもちろん読み応えがあって、読む喜びのようなものを感じてきましたが、「スナーク狩り」は読むぞっ、という意気込みを感じる以前に、ページをめくるたびに文字が映像に変わっていくような、読むと言うよりは観ているような感覚に陥りながら読んでいた気がします。
それはただの映像ではなく、宮部さん独特の表現であったり人物像により、切なくもあり悲しくもあり、夜の闇の中なのに、人物達が抱えるそれぞれの思いや行動が鮮明に浮かび上がっていて、実に立体的と言うか…、まるで自分もストーリーと一体化して、人物達の呼吸や心音を聞いているような、映像では表現しきれない繊細な部分をリアルに感じることができました。
何より、とても読みやすく、本好きとして、宮部ファンとして十分に楽しめます。宮部作品に、有名かそうでないかは関係ないのだと、この作品で感じることができました。

最近、映画化された「模倣犯」、「クロスファイア」や直木賞を受賞し文庫化された「理由」など、宮部作品を代表するものは数多くあるように言われていますが、これこそ隠れた名作であり、宮部みゆきさんの真骨頂だと思います。7年ほど前に読みましたが、これを超える作品はまだないように思います。

最近の宮部さんの人気ぶりはすさまじいものがあり、最近になって宮部さんの作品を読み始めた方が多くいると思います。そんな方に特に読んでいただきたい作品です。
