前ですが、小説の『木枯し紋次郎』に
ハマッていました。
そのきっかけが、この第一巻『赦免花は散った』でした。
偶然、本屋で目にして興味本位で購入。
テレビシリーズの存在は知ってはいましたが、放送自体は
見たことがなく、「あぁ、あの時代劇の本だ・・・。」くらいの印象。
それが読んでみると、これが面白いのなんの！。

あっという間に読み終わってしまいました。
一話完結の物語ですが、個々の話ごとに見事な展開、あっと驚く
結末が用意されていて、まったく飽きる事がありません！。
特に、『湯煙に月は砕けた』が面白い。
無法者たちが占拠した、温泉宿での一夜。そこで繰り広げられる
密室劇は、緊張感ただよう展開が、最初から最後まで途切れる事無く、サスペンスとしても楽しめる一編。
さらに、テレビでは描かれることが無かった真の第一話、表題作
『赦免花は散った』もファン必見！。
テレビシリーズを見た事がある人も、無い人も楽しめる傑作小説です。

記念すべき木枯らし紋次郎第一話「赦免花は散った」だが残念ながら
ＴＶドラマ未発表作で映画化はされているが菅原文太氏が主役で
中村敦夫氏のイメージが強い私としては一寸残念な気がする。
さてストーリーだが、幼馴染の兄貴分に騙され絶海の孤島三宅島に
流されるのだが、流人仲間と共謀して脱出し自分を騙した兄貴分を
探し出し復讐するという内容だ。
南海の楽園とはほど遠く、近年起こった島民全員島外避難のニュースを
見てもそうだが火山の爆発による溶岩の流出と毒ガス。
受刑者への銃殺刑が青く晴れ渡った空の下、９月なのに真夏の様な暑さ
が非情とも思えるようなムードの中でボロボロの衣装を着た流人達
の見守る中おこなわれ、読み手のほうも汗がにじんでくるようだった。
三宅島の噴火が起き、島民たちの大混乱に乗じて紋次郎と流人グループ
が脱出に成功した場面は映画「パピヨン」とアレクサンドル・デュマの
「モンテクリスト伯」を連想させた。
お花・源太の島抜け船上のまぬけな行動には笑ってしまった、流人同士の
結束の無さが一層紋次郎の孤高さを強調する様に思えた・・・。
