初めて王都炎上を手にしてから、もう十数年が経っています。しかし新刊が出るまで長かった。実は諦めて角川版は手放してしまったので、改めて買いなおす羽目となりそうです。久しぶりに読んですぐに記憶が蘇りました。どっぷりパルスに嵌まりそうです。もう二度と本を手放さずにすむよう、続編はサクサク出して欲しいものです。著者の遅筆さからは無理な願いだとは思いますが、神に祈らずにはいられません。
内容としては各キャラクターの状態確認とこれからの前振り的内容です。後書きがないのが残念。

あまりにも久々だったのでストーリーを思い出しながら読みました。いまさら遅いですが、焦って読まずに、最初から読み直した後に読んだ方が良かったかなと思いました。長く待った分、期待も大きく読み終わった後にやや物足りない感じは否めませんでした…残念。今後に期待したいと思います。あと、私は天野喜孝さんのファンなので、イラストが変わってしまったのも残念でした。

　ファンが指折り数えて待ちに待ったアルスラーン戦記新作、ようやく登場です！！
　ストーリーに大きな進展があるというよりは、長いブランクを経たため、独特の世界観に読者をよび戻し、“時差ぼけ”を解消させるための再導入部という感じでしょうか。ファランギース一行、クバード一行など前巻以前で「次巻を待て！」状態になっていたキャラ達の様子が書かれていたり、エステルやジムサなどの準レギュラー陣がクローズアップされています。そして巻末では、次巻以降の激戦や波乱を予想させる展開です。

　個人的には、ダリューン・ナルサスのパルス軍双璧二人の見せ場がなかったのが寂しいですね。その代わりヒルメス殿下が「…！！」なことになってますので、インパクトはありましたが。

　私見ですけど、何だか色んな女性キャラが活躍してます。例の女性も新登場ですし。颯爽とした女性ばかりで私は皆さん好きですが、こんなに有能で豪快な美(少)女ばっかりって流石に無理があるんじゃ、と思わなくもないです…。いや、それを言ったら男性キャラもそうか…。
