今多コンツェルンの会長の婿・杉村三郎は、会長の運転手・梶田の事故死の調査をすることになる。梶田は自分の車に轢かれて死亡しており、いまだに当て逃げした人物は捕まっていない。梶田の娘たちが、事故を風化させないため、父の伝記を作りたいと言ってきたのだ。伝記の製作に意欲的な妹梨子と反対に、姉聡美は父の過去を調査することにためらいをみせる。聡美は梨子が生まれる前の「色合いの違った」父の人生を知っており、4才に誘拐をされた記憶があるのだ。犯人の「お父さんが悪いんだ」という言葉が彼女の記憶に残り、過去をこじあけることで婚約者や妹にまで害悪が及ぶことをおそれる聡美だが・・・。

登場人物の造型、作品のプロット、一文一文が作者らしく丁寧に作り込まれたミステリーである。しかし、「火車」や「模倣犯」でうけた衝撃をもとめる読者には、いささか物足りないかもしれない。他の作品と比べると十分星５つに値する作品で、楽しむことはできたが、作者の作品のなかでは必ずしもベストではないという印象を受けた。

これからもどんどんミステリー作品を発表して頂きたい。

大財閥会長の運転手を真面目に勤めてきた梶田氏が、縁もゆかりもない土地で自転車に轢き逃げされ帰らぬ人になってしまった。残された歳の離れた家族想いだが、性格は両極端な美人姉妹。父の無念を晴らすため本を出版することを計画。その手助けを頼まれた財閥の婿養子。梶田氏の過去を探していくうちに家族の汚点があぶりだされて、最後は予想通りだった。

細かい矛盾がいくつかはありますが、一気に読ませてくれるのはさすがに宮部ワールドならでは。ただ登場人物に共感できない部分が多々あり、しつこいくらいの表現が後味をくどくしている。

　あまり、ミステリー小説を読む方ではない。宮部みゆきは「理由」を読んで以来である。
　昨年の中日新聞の連載小説で、この続編となる「名もなき毒」がなかなか面白く、前編にも興味をもったのが読むきっかけである。
　ストーリーの設定がユニークで、展開も素晴らしいと思う。単なる犯人探しや謎解きに終わっていない。
　主人公の目が実にリアルで、心理描写があたかも自分が現実に遭遇しているかのような錯覚に囚われてしまう。そして、まんまと思惑通りにミステリーの罠にはめられてしまう。
　ただ、宮部みゆきという作家の特色であろうが、人間の心の闇を、悪魔的なものを、これでもかと毒々しいまでに書こうとする。
　ストーリーは紹介したくないが、この小説では、事故の被害者の家族で、相談者である二人の姉妹が、結末で手のひら返したように主人公に毒づくのは読んでいてやりきれないし、後味があまりに悪すぎる。
