　アルスラーン戦記第一部の「千秋楽」ともいうべき『王都奪還』。
　第二部のはじまり『仮面兵団』が収録されています。

　王都奪還の“見せ場”は「第二次アトロパテネ会戦」と
「アルスラーンが宝剣を賜り、真のシャーオ（国王）になる」
ところでしょう。

　とにかく田中さんの戦闘シーンの描写には舌を巻きます。
まだ中学の頃、こんなに戦闘の描写に迫力があって、映画を
見ているようなゾクゾク感にさらされたのは、氏がはじめてで、
感動しました。我らがダリューン卿の活躍もすごくて、ほれましたな~~。

　あと、アルスラーンがタハミーネ王妃と語り合い、
自ら王者の剣を賜りに行くシーンは、まじ泣けます！
　結局“タハミーネはアルスラーンという一この人間を
最後まで理解しようとしなかった”といったくだりも、
エステルやアルフリードのように「自発的に生きられず、
生きようともしなかった女性の哀しいエゴイズム」
が表れていて、なーんだかやりきれない。でも、この女性の
心理的描写もほんとに上手い。戦争や戦術だけでなく、
人間を描く能力にも卓越している氏の才能をかんじさせられます。

　宝剣を賜ったのち、アンドラゴラス王に罵倒されても、「私が王です」
と毅然と言い放つところは、「成長したよ~（泣）」
って感じで安心しました。強くなりましたアルスラーン！

　家臣ではあるけれど、かけがえない仲間たちが
「殿下！」とやや危機迫る雰囲気にも聞き取れた尊称が
（まだおさなくて頼りないので、大人たちがひやひやしているのが
この言葉だけで伝わってくる・・・）、
「陛下」になると、落ち着いた音楽ふうにも読み取れるのは
彼も成長し、真の王・大人になった証なのでしょう。

　でも、ダリューンやナルサスたちに「過保護」に
されているアルスラーンはやっぱり可愛らしかったです（笑）。

田中芳樹さんは遅筆で、ほんと待たされるけど、裏切らない内容だよなぁ。久しぶりに読み返したけれども、一気に全巻読んでしまった。最近新書になっているのを見つけて読み返したが、やっぱりいい。「よさ」はいろいろあるが、なによりも、王都奪還のデヴァマント山でアルスラーン王子が、王になる宣言をするシーン。まじで、感動する。背筋に電撃が走るよ、まじで。雨にぬれるにもいとわずに「われらがシャーオ（国王）よ」とダリューンがつぶやくシーンは、どんな遅筆も許される感動的な瞬間だ。もともと中国の古典の研究を大学でしていたとかで、そうした大河と悠久なる歴史の流れと物語的カタルシスを描かせたら、やっぱりこの人しかいない、と思わせるよなぁ。ともすれば、受身で上品で穏やかなアルスラーンが、家族の愛や出生などすべてを否定されても、自分自身で自分を選ぶ決断のシーンは、涙なしには見れないよ。ダリューンじゃないけど、こんな上司ならば命に代えても仕えたいと思い込むかもしれないなぁ。
