お酒のおいしさや愉しさは、食事とあわせることでさらに広がると思います。
そんな視点で書かれた焼酎の本だと思います。
ソムリエである著者ならではの本で、とても読みやすく、楽しい本です。
毎日の食卓が愉しくなるヒントがいっぱいです。

ソムリエとして有名な著者が、焼酎の魅力を余すところなく語っています。実際に飲んだ銘柄のコメントにかなりの紙数を割いており、しかも味わいや香りをソムリエ独特の比喩で表現していますので、自分の感覚と符合するかは別として、非常にイメージしやすく工夫されています。いわゆる本格焼酎の入門書的なガイドブックとしても使えるでしょう。ただ、惜しむらくは、ブランドものの本格焼酎ばかりではなくて、もっと手軽に近所のスーパーでも売ってるような銘柄も紹介して欲しかったですね。

　同書は、焼酎ガイドブック的な楽しみ方も当然できましたが、それより著者本人の経験談が素直に面白い読本です。語りかけてくるような優しい文章が読みやすく、押しつけない雰囲気が親しみやすいですよ。

　ソムリエという響きに、鼻持ちならない小洒落たイメージがあり正直抵抗がありましたが、彼は世界で優勝する前に六本木の日本料理「吉左右」のソムリエだった頃「全国ソムリエ最高技術賞コンクール」で優勝している経緯があったのですね。和食にワインですよ、この感覚で優勝している訳です。つまり洋モノにかぶれたワイン崇拝者ではなく、日本文化を他国に広めてくれる伝道師的な存在だったようです。しかも我らの聖水、庶民の酒「焼酎」で本を書くなんて、急に何だか親近感が湧いてきませんか。<!P>　九州が憧れの土地で「焼酎しか飲めないんじゃない、焼酎だから飲むんだ」という、織田祐二ばりの啖呵を切ってしまう私としては（ちょっと大げさだが）、「世界の田崎」が日常飲んでいるのは焼酎と聞いてほくそ笑んでしまいました。きちんとテイスティングした焼酎がＰ１００~Ｐ１９９までズラリと掲載され、味という具体性の難しい世界を解説していますし、入手困難な名前先行の焼酎も他と平等に評価している姿勢に好感が持てました。
