~今まで読んだ家づくり関係の本のなかではピカイチ。９坪の家に惹かれたという状況の特殊性にも関わらず（もちろん、この特殊性の部分も、そしてその家のデザインもとても素敵なのですが）、フツーの人が、フツーにこだわりを持って、家族と苦楽を共にしながら家をつくるその課程が、等身大で嫌みがなく、家づくりを思いついてからの数ヶ月間、家族で濃厚かつ~~愉快な毎日を過ごしたんだろうなと、こちらまで楽しくなりました。

もっと早く読んでおけばよかったと思うのが、不動産屋の選び方のくだり。「・・・不動産屋さんがいくつかのタイプに分類できることもわかってきた。大手の系列のフランチャイズの不動産屋。おじさんやおばさんがひとりでやっている地元の不動産屋。建設業の別部門の不動産屋。堅くてのん~~びりしている信託銀行系の不動産屋。そして、気をつけた方がいい横文字系の猛烈型不動産屋。」実は、土地探しにあたって、右も左も分からない私たちが始めてくぐった不動産屋の門は、横文字系だった。もし、あらかじめそれと分かっていれば、近寄らずに済んだだろうに。それだけが、残念。~

家を建てるということ、建築家とはどういう仕事をするのか、すべてに素人だった私に家を立てるとはどういうことかを教えてくれた本です。外見、使いやすさどちらに偏ることなく素晴らしいコンセプトで9坪の家を完成させたことに心から拍手したいと思いました。家を建てると決めてから完成までの道のりが手にとるようにわかります。建築家をただの線引きだと思っている人に是非読んで欲しいです。

とにかく手にとって、冒頭のカラー写真を見てください。小さな箱型の家の、その美しさに息をのみます。ムクの木材、大きな窓と吹き抜け、すっきりした間取り。何も無駄がなく、かといってきちきちせず、自分ならどんなふうに住むかと想像するとわくわくします。

過去の有名な建築家の「最小限住宅」を再現した展覧会から、その木材を引き取って自宅を建ててしまったという、著者の家づくりの精神にも心を打たれました。小さいといっても９坪（１階）＋６坪（２階）で約５０m2なら、普通のマンション住まいとあまり変わらないですよね。いまの家づくりや、住まい方そのものを考え直させてくれる１冊です。
