音読の教材として使った。キング牧師の演説が全文載っていたのでこの本に決めた。何度も音読して憶えた。この本にはひとつひとつの演説に、その時代の背景や、この演説に至るまでの流れも載っているので興味深く、文章もさすが歴史に残るだけの良文（名演説）なので、気に入った文を選んで音読しまくりませう。

いろいろな英語学習関連の本を読んできましたが、なかなか面白いと思う教材にめぐり合うことがこれまで出来ませんでした。しかし、この本はよかったです。私が歴史好きということも手伝ってほぼ目標どおり１日１演説づつ読み終えることが出来ました。これから２回目です。やっぱり好きなジャンルで勉強するのが一番だなということがわかりました。世界史好きにはたまならい一冊です。

アメリカについての知識と英語力の両方を、最も効果的に習得させてくれる本！特に、私のように、アメリカの大学に留学する予定の人や、アメリカに住む予定の人にとっては、最高の準備をさせてくれる本だと思います。「アメリカの歴史」、「アメリカの文化」、「英文読解」、「英会話」、「リスニング」といった本は、本屋に沢山並んでいるけれど、この本には、そういったものが、とても上手く関連付けながら凝縮されていて、読者にとっては一石二鳥、三鳥、四鳥・・・です。

約２ページの有名演説（注つき）、訳、解説という簡潔にまとまったユニットが、年代順に３０演説続くので、１日１ユニットを目標に、まずは１ヶ月で一通りの勉強をしてみようと挑戦中です。毎日、全く苦にならない分量で、しかも手ごたえは十分です！もう１つ素晴らしいのは、CDの朗読。適度な速さで聴き取りやすく、リズムがあって、本当の演説を聴いているみたいです。耳に残ります。

魔法のように、安易に英語がペラペラになることだけを夢見ているのではなく、もっと沢山のことを、総合的に、深く、楽しく、着実に学びたい人に最適の本だと思います。
