この本は助動詞やUp、Down、Out、Offなどに焦点を当てて書かれています。上記の表現はどのようなニュアンスを含んでいるか、またどのようなイメージを持っているかなど普段の学校英語では習わないことが分かり易く書かれているので非常に有益です。お勧めです。

NHKシリーズで絶大な人気を集めた著者の得意とする「基本イメージ」による英文解釈。
これまでの退屈な文法書と一線を画するテンポの良さは、初めて読む人に大きな驚きを与えるだろう。
もちろんこれだけでは正確な文章理解はできないが、小難しい文法書に取り組む前の準備運動として捉えると良いと思う。
個人的には何とも言えず怪しいイラストが楽しい。

ネイティブが多用するこの微妙な感覚が理解できれば
表現の広がりが大きくなる。英語学習者にとっては大きな前進だ。
助動詞・前置詞の使い方に悩んでいる人には、ブレークスルー
となる一冊だと思う。丸暗記の学習では味わえない「深み」と
「面白さ」を体験できたのが嬉しい。
これから英語の勉強を始めると言う人より、学習者または
ちょっと停滞気味の人にお勧め。
分厚い文法書を手に取る前にまずこの一冊を！！
