先日ふと前置詞の重要性について考えていて、そういえばこのシリーズの「前置詞編」が出ていたことに気づき購入した。軽妙な語り口で次々と前置詞の１つ１つが持つイメージを解きほぐしていく様は見事である。私は中でも次の四点において非常に説得力を感じた。

・「方向」：to（そこに向かい達する）とfor（そこに向かうという意味だけで達したかどうかは含意しない）の違い
・「〜に関して」：about（ある事柄の周辺のいろいろ→一般性）とon（ある１つの事柄にのみ力点が置かれる→専門性）の違い
・「分離」：be made ofの説明として、木製の額縁が木から分離して作られている様子を描いたイラストが目からウロコ
・「〜に関して」aboutとofの違い：think about とthink ofの違い

もう少し深い話を聞きたいと思わせる部分もあったが、逆にそう読者に思わせるのが著者の狙いなのかもしれない。

　『膨大な意味のある前置詞を、１つのイメージからひろげていこう。』
というのが本書の内容で、今までなんとなく覚えてきた前置詞の使い方が、
非常にわかりやすく書かれています。皆さんもぜひ買ってみてくださいね。

　この本をきっかけにメルマガも始めた程、インパクトがありました。前置詞だけを取り上げている本も珍しい...と思いながら、友人が『 OVER 』のページを説明...『 ABOUT 』のページに辿り着く頃には...このレストランを出たら本屋さんに直行とまで決めてました（笑）。

文法を「習う」のではなく、「単語の持つイメージから理解する」ことが出来る。その視点から入ってみる。すると使い方の選択肢がもっと広がる。もう一度文法にトライしてみようかな、と思わせた逸品です！

単語たちの場面ごとに発揮している意味がつかめるようになると、読む時、書く時、話す時の使い方が少しづつ変わってきます。
英語入門者のかたならこの本を読んでから、最新刊の『ネイティブスピーカーの絶対基礎力』に進まれてもいいかも知れません。

　『絶対基礎力』にも載っていた次回作『英文法最重要語彙（仮題）』もこの延長線上にあるものとして、とても楽しみにしているところです。
