5.0 out of 5 stars 時代遅れかもしれないが、資格用でなくあくまで日常の英語基礎学習用としておすすめ, 2006/11/9
教材の内容など確かに皆さんの指摘があったように、時代錯誤でナレーションの遅さなどで各種検定試験や現代英語についていけないという思いが本を買われたかたにはあると思う。
だが、この教材は５０年来内容が大きく変わっていないところがみそ。現代英語や検定の勉強に備えたければそれ相応の教材でやればいいと思う。
そんな私も最初は、各章最後の和文英訳以外の問題に解答が付いてないことに憤りを感じた。しかし、それは著者のクラークさんのご意向で考える習慣をつけさせるためにあえて答えを載せてないらしく、学校採用云々ではないとのこと。
結論から言えば、検定試験向けではないが、広く教養として英語の勉強をやりたい人向けの教材であるようだ。
教材の構成や内容、意図など何か疑問があれば直接質問してみるといいと思う。私は問い合わせてやっと胸のつかえがとれたと同時に「そういう意図の教材なんだな」とようやく理解することができた。
中級以上に和訳がないのはそのレベルになれば英語のままで思考ができるはずだというこれまた著者の意向のようである。
私はしばらくは各章の冒頭の英文の音読を使って読む英語の基礎訓練用に使いたい。

新版では再編集が成され、旧版で悪評の高かった部分がかなり改善されました。
特に（１）新版は、日本人に不得手な口語表現に重点を置き実に旧版より分かりやすくなった。
（２）特に題材に関しては旧版では古くなった部分が全面入れ替えられ21世紀を見据えた
話題に代えられている。
（３）暗唱して覚えられるIdiomatic Expression が隋所に収録されている。
以上により同書をじっくり読破すればTOEIC700点以上は夢ではない。

丁寧に勉強することができて、コンテンツが沢山あるところが良いと思う。

色々な英語学習のための教材が出ているが、こつこつと勉強したい生徒さんや、じっくりと教えたい先生向けのものがなかなか無い。その中で、このアメリカ口語教本はレベルに合わせて勉強できるし、文例に若干古めかしさを感じなくもないが、ある意味とても品の良いアメリカ口語が学習できるところが魅力だと思う。

自分だけかも知れないが、語学の問題の回答には色々な回答方法があるので、生徒と一緒に考えながら回答を探すことで、生徒の学習にも役立っていると思う。

確かに癖があるし、教材として使うには楽な本では無いが、私は各レベルともに気に入っている。
